My Slippers Have Pom-Poms

On Them

Everyone loves my slippers.

Nurses, patients, and various hospital staff. Visitors too.

They are gray.  Fluffy with beige pom-poms that hang and move from side to side when I walk.  The pom-poms are on top of the slipper.  Bought from a local pharmacy store, I wear them often.  These slippers have walked upon hardwood floors of rooms in life.  Tiled flooring too, of a room I share with a woman obsessed over shaving her legs, drinking a pot of coffee a day, and who yanked a nurse by her work badge for refusing her cigarettes during her admission. (You can’t make this stuff up!)

 

I look down every night.  It’s time to remove my comfortable slippers.  I shake my right foot and watch the pom-poms bounce.  I stare.  Then, making the pom-poms move again, I realize that Life and Love are like these interesting slippers.  When the roads are long and cobbled, hard beneath my feet, all you need to do is go to Walmart, slip on the comfort of peace through Faith and God.  Allowing Him to lead you.  Like the pom-poms on my gray, fluffy slippers… Me and God are a beautiful pair… If you walk long enough with the Heavenly Father, the world will notice, and you will begin to hear…

“Oh, I love your slippers!” 

“Thank you” [I smile].

 

I lay down now on a public hospital mattress slept on by thousands of others, as I hear the loud chatter of distant staff members and “goodnights” from exhausted patients. 

“Tomorrow, I’ll put you on again.”  I thought to myself, glancing at a wooden closet that safe kept my comfortable slippers.

 

Just then, I remembered a scripture from the Bible, “I can do all things with God…” [paraphrased].  Even finding peace on uncomfortable cobbled walks in life…

 

But, this is NOT goodnight.  For there is a light in every dark sky… 

His name is Jesus.  GOOD DAY.  GOOD DAY.  GOOD DAY.
